Economic Week

wongsanit_report07Off to the Northeaster province Surin for the economy week. Here a rural community has taken on the challenges of unscrupulous middlemen, perpetual indebtedness, modern chemical farming and the globalised economy, to become a resilient, self-sustaining light in modern Thailand.

With a micro credit union to support farmers in the change to Organic & bio-diverse production, a Green Market that gives producers and consumers a direct relationship and their own rice mill which now exports all over the world, the community made an ideal setting for the economic week.

wongsanit_report08Here the participants delved into the murky waters of money, wealth and power with the illuminating Star Power Game. Narong & Nuntiya guided them in mapping the influence of global economy, politics, society and the environmental policy planning, on the community and household. With a visual map, their understanding of the interconnectedness of the world was re-affirmed and that to heal the parts, an understanding of the whole was crucial.

Participants found the talk by Mo, on Redefining Money particularly relevant in today?s credit card world, some felt it helped them be more mindful of their own relationship to Wealth and Worth ? remembering that everything has intrinsic value.
