We have been closely monitoring the unfolding of one of the most direst and violent situations in Burma’s Rakhine.

Violence abetted against fellow human beings has caused massive casualties among the Muslim Rohingya. This has brought us much grief and trauma and our deepest concern for the uncertain future of the survivors.

“Thou shalt not kill” is the first precept upheld by Buddhists. It epitomizes a humanitarian notion supporting an act of nonviolence to deal with problems. The hefty tools taken by the Muslim Rohingya, regardless if it is caused by a religious or an ethnic cause, cannot be justified, at least from a Buddhist point of view.

As Buddhists who want to ensure humanitarian assistance be promptly delivered to the desperate Rohingya refugees, and we invite all of you to extend your word of love and compassion to help dilute ethnic prejudice. Your donation in kind or in cash would make it possible for their humanitarian assistance. You support can be sent to the International Network of Engaged Buddhists (INEB) which has an extensive network of activists in Burma who can help to bring it to the Rohingya refugees in need at the Bangladesh border.
