The "Buy Nothing Week" Campaign PDF Print E-mail

The “Buy Nothing Week” campaign was held on 28th January 2008 and lasted until 2nd February 2008 in Thailand. It is the week of challenging ourselves to buy less and get to know ourselves how much we addicted to buying things, and find alternative ways other than shopping to happiness and good lives. The concept of the “Buy Nothing Week” is derived from the “Buy Nothing Day” (BND) which first started in 1992 in Vancouver, Canada by an artist Ted Dave and his friends. Promoted by Adbusters, an international magazine, it has now at least 62 countries (recorded in 2003) joining the movement.

Two Social Alternatives on the Future of Thai Society PDF Print E-mail

On 14th December 2006 a seminar was held to celebrate the anniversary of Wongsanit Asharm on alternative perspectives for the future Thai society. Two approaches were discussed, namely Community-Culture approach and Dhammic Socialism. The participants were from Wongsanit Asharm, Spirit in Education Movement (SEM), College of Social Management, NGO workers, grassroots leaders and general public. The seminar was aimed to search for new political alternative models based on local cultures and the Buddha’s social teachings.

INEB Young Bodhisattvas PDF Print E-mail


INEB organized the 2006 “Young Bodhisattva” Youth Buddhist Leadership Training for Spiritual Resurgence and Social Transformation during 16 May - 24 June 2006. There are young monks, nuns and laypeople from Southeast Asia and South Asia. We have for the first time new members from Shan State (in Myanmar) Tibet (in China) and Ladakh (in India). They spent six week in learning about current situation in Asia, Buddhist teachings to understand violence within ourselves and in social structure, several development projects and basic skill of social work. The program also offered a meditation retreat in forest monastery.
